Rhetorical analysis-army ad

WATCO joining the ROTC army on life experience
Claim: Joining the ROTC army will increase life experience.
Reason: because joining the ROTC does not limit the students to just a class room.
IA: anything that does not limit the student to just a class room will increase life experiences.
Ethos: the ROTC is credible because it is stationed at many universities including BYU. it is associated with the army as a training course. they have requirement to enlist. the ad shows someone in camouflage. it is for the university of Iowa. has the US Army logo. it looks official not sloppy. gives a the phone number of an officer and a website.
Pathos: it would appeal to someone who likes adventure when it says, "our classrooms know no boundaries." implying that it is now boring and you will not be constrained to a classroom. shows someone belaying in the air. you cant see the ground or what they are attached to, the encourages excitement and risk.
Logos: specifies who they are targeting, freshman and sophomores. goes into more detail in the small print. use the wording to target people they want. they want someone who is a student and will push them self.

way to go, good analysis. These are becoming pretty easy now arent they? It's kinda' fun to pick these out so we can see the underlying messages ads have to entice us.
