vans advertisement http://webpages.shepherd.edu/EHOSKI01/AdIm/part%202/experiantials.jpg
This advertisement is trying to sell Vans shoes.
Ethos- vans is a well know and popular band. they have their logo at the bottom of the page with thier website. the picture looks cropped and put together professionaly. they have fine print on the advertisement. their is picture of what they are trying to sell, the shoe, at the bottom of the page.
Pathos- on the ad there is a young girls who is smiling at the top and the bottom half is her serfing on a big wave. there is a quote that says "like the ocean both beautiful and DANGEROUS". they are trying to appeal to a younger crowd. girls who are looking for adventrue and excitement in their life. the ad looks like they need to buy vans in order to have that. it uses bright colors that attract the eye. they make it look like the shoe is what will bring excitement into ones life.
Logos-they used words like dangerous and beatiful to appeal to young girls. they put a picture of the shoe on the ad.
Sufficient- it has the website and logo. it says what it want to sell.
Typical- yes, they over dramatize trying to sell a shoe. they used surfing as their selling point and that is a sport that is dangerous and very popular.
Accurate- the ad is targeting the rigth crowed. the shoes are not made for older women, but they are more of a trendy shoe for a younger crowed.
Relative- the ad is relative to its crowed but im not really sure how surfing relates to a sneakers.

i hate school so much i cant even handle it any more! these stupid deadlines every one sets at the same time. i feel like i never have time to do anything for myself or what i want to do because i'm going off everything and everyone else's schedule. i just want weekend were i can go out with my fiance and not have to worry about something due at midnight, like a blog. i feel like i have been constantly stressed for the past two months and i don't think tanner can handle it any more. i took only twelve credits so i would have time to plan my wedding but this feels like the hardest semester ever at BYU. i feel so bad for tanner because he is the one who has to deal with my nervous breakdowns every week, or so it seems to be every week. i need to learn how to set my priorities. i have been setting school as my top priority and that is so wrong. planning my wedding hasn't even been fun because it gets in the way of my school work which is so sad because i have been so excited to plan my wedding ever since i was a little kid. i need to forget about doing everything perfect and forget about caring what other people think, and just decide to be happy and grateful because life is what you make it. i need to have more faith in the Lord because as long as i prioritize the gospel he will take care of the rest and everything will just fall into place.

wedding plans
I went to the courthouse today and met with my caterer and florist which are actually my dad’s good friend and my soon to be mother-in-law. It went good, but it didn’t start that way. Tanner’s mother is very opinionated and has a strong personality and my dad is very controlling and wants it his way. So at first they clashed because she didn’t understand and my dad couldn’t explain because she was disagreeing and he wasn’t listening. It got a little heated but eventually cooled down once my mom stepped in and calmed my dad down and explained to her what we meant. It never turned to an argument it was just a little heated. I am glad I finally got that taken care of though. She has been trying to ask me questions over the phone about the flowers and I think we often misunderstand each other. When we were finished I went to practice and that sometimes calms me down to be active. So it was nice, especially since the weather was so beautiful today. We have a game this weekend against San Diego State at 5 in San Diego. We have to drive again which I hate so much because it’s a ten to twelve hour drive and I get car sick so I can’t read or do anything. Last time we went to California I brought my computer and a movie but forgot to charge my computer so that was no use. Tournaments are fun, but sometimes too much fun because there’s never enough time to do home work, but it’s worth it.

free write-visit to the utah state prison
the prison trip was defiantly one of the most interesting college experiences i have had so far. when we first got there we went to an area of the prison were they have programs for prisoners who want to better their current situations. they have programs you can get a GED, culinary arts degree or even have a job. these facilities were much cleaner and the prisoner wore collared shirts. at first we watched a movie explaining what the facility did, then a panel of about six prisoners came out to talk to us. we were given the opportunity to ask them any questions we wanted to. i asked about the jobs they were able to hold and how much they made. these prisoners had to work their way up to these programs not just anyone can make it and stay. they view this facility as an opportunity to change and don't take it lightly. it was interesting to see how much gratitude they showed toward this program given their current situation. they are sitting in prison and are still grateful for the opportunity to change and don't take it lightly. it was interesting to see how much gratitude they showed toward this program given their current situation. they are sitting in prison and are still grateful for the opportunity they have to learn and hold some responsibility.

Rhetorical analysis-army ad
WATCO joining the ROTC army on life experienceClaim: Joining the ROTC army will increase life experience.
Reason: because joining the ROTC does not limit the students to just a class room.
IA: anything that does not limit the student to just a class room will increase life experiences.
Ethos: the ROTC is credible because it is stationed at many universities including BYU. it is associated with the army as a training course. they have requirement to enlist. the ad shows someone in camouflage. it is for the university of Iowa. has the US Army logo. it looks official not sloppy. gives a the phone number of an officer and a website.
Pathos: it would appeal to someone who likes adventure when it says, "our classrooms know no boundaries." implying that it is now boring and you will not be constrained to a classroom. shows someone belaying in the air. you cant see the ground or what they are attached to, the encourages excitement and risk.
Logos: specifies who they are targeting, freshman and sophomores. goes into more detail in the small print. use the wording to target people they want. they want someone who is a student and will push them self.
